Aby Vulliamy

Aby loves variety; she works as both a musician and a music therapist, playing mainly viola, piano and vocals, and occasionally flute, recorders and the musical saw. During her misspent youth, Aby was leader of the viola section in the City of Hull Youth Symphony Orchestra (1992). Since then Aby has worked with a wide range of brilliant musicians, including long-term collaborations with Nalle (with artist Hanna Tuulikki), The One Ensemble (with Daniel Padden of Volcano the Bear), and the National Jazz Trio of Scotland (with Bill Wells). Aby loves contributing to recordings and live performances; having shared the stage and/or studio with Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, Stevie Jackson of Belle and Sebastian, The Trembling Bells (including Mike Heron from The Incredible String Band), Hans Joachim Irmler of Faust, Bridget St John, influential jazz and free improvisers such as John Tchicai, Evan Parker, Annie Whitehead and Maggie Nichols, established folk musicians such as Ali Roberts, national ensembles such as The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and a range of solo artists including Isobel Campbell, Nick Garrie, Bennie Hemm Hemm and Sharron Kraus. Aby played viola on ‘Everything’s Getting Older’, the Scottish Album of the Year 2012, by Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat of Arab Strap.
