Muscles of Joy

Muscles of Joy are a band from Glasgow, Scotland, an all female collaboration of artists with a shifting line up of members. The band have also collaborated with other musicians for particular projects. An important influence from the beginning was in exploring sound through vocals, vocables, reflecting past group choral experience, and exploring the use of language in various forms while at the same time developing individual and inventive approaches to instrumentation. Since their formation Muscles of Joy have performed widely at venues across Scotland and internationally including Summerhall, Edinburgh; Cafe Oto, London; Made Festival, Umea, Sweden; Renzo Piano Concert Hall, Isabella Stuart Gardener Museum, Boston; Music is the Music Language Festival, Glasgow; WFMU Radio Station, New Jersey. In 2011 released their debut album on the Glasgow based label 'Watts of Goodwill', with specially created sleeves printed by the band. For Tectonics the approach will be different with a smaller core writing group of Muscles of Joy regulars.
